Most of our customers come to us with a clear idea of which sex they want for their puppy
before they arrive at our door. Maybe they had a girl dog or a boy dog in the past.
However, many haven't a clue which to purchase. Females
generally cost more, because females are always requested more often. Why?
Used to be - INSIDE DOG- FEMALE DOG. The reason for this was plain.
Spay/Neutering could not be done until the pet was 1 year of age. Male dogs would reach
their maturity and then do all of the things that male dogs like to do. They would hike their legs and
spray urine on all of the furniture, the floor, the lamps, and even your leg IF you stood still long enough.
They also had that little " hump" thing going. And sometimes, just sometimes, they would get
aggressive along with their maleness.
But there is good news for the those of us who like our male companions. Medical technology has
caught up with the veterninary world. They have made great advances and are able to start neutering
males now at, as early as 8-10 weeks. Although some of the vets are still holding out for 5-6 months.
It is being done at earlier ages in the big cities. It is also less expensive to neuter a male. Less of a
surgery and they recover quicker. And usually a male that is neutered young never really knows
he is a male. Meaning he will squat to pee.
So let's see: Reasons to purchase a male over a female:
Males
are generally cheaper to purchase.
Males
are cheaper to neuter.
Males
recover quicker from the surgery generally as a rule.
The whole thing about getting a PET PUPPY is to have it DE-SEXED. They live longer and you
have less problems. Statistically they have less cancers and other diseases as well, if neutered
young. Talk to your vet about doing it as early as possible.
Don't get me wrong, I love my girls. I have both that are just as sweet as honey. They bond
and want to be on you 24/7. I just wanted to let you have the option to
think about either and not think that you had to have a girl for an inside dog.
